DIY Personalised Library Bag

This little bag is perfect for library books!  It was fun to make and has someone very excited about reading.

We made this personalised library bag for the start of school.  However, it hasn't just been used as a library bag.  It's become a swim bag and a pajama bag for sleep overs.  It's even recently been used as a car tidy-upperer hung over the head rest of the front passenger seat so that he can reach all his toys and stay occupied (ahem quiet) for car trips.

You'll Need:

  • 1 x Ready made canvas bag with straps (I bought the bag ready made for about $3 at a craft store)

  • Printed plane stencil (download below)

  • Fabric paints in colours of your choosing

Steps:

1. Print the plane stencil, below.  You can print this at the size you need for your bag.

2. Stencil the plane on in pencil

3. Before painting, we positioned a placemat between the layers so that the paint didn't go through the fabric to the other side of the bag

4. Then we painted to our little hearts' content, using fabric paints. Tadhg did the middle of the stencil, and I tidied up the outlines a bit.  If your child is older, they'll be able to do this on their own.  I drew dotted lines to spell out his name.  Then I circled his name in a cloud shape, by hand.  Use a ruler to do this if you aren't confident in your own handwriting

5. We followed the instructions on the fabric paint and left to dry for about 30 mins, before ironing.  And voila...a custom made library bag that will never get lost.  Well, fingers crossed.  Now all you need to do is take a trip to the library!
