Hand painted breakfast tray
Who doesn't love breakfast in bed? With small children, bribery over who gets to sleep in is rife in our household. The other morning I decided to surprise Mr. J. (without resorting to shady measures, I swear!) and bring him breakfast in bed. With the help of my two little assistants, we dished up a feast fit for any sleepyhead.
I'm not sure that it was much of a surprise though - someone kept running in to check whether daddy was awake and had a fit of the giggles every time an eyelid so much as blinked. But the real surprise was this cute tray that we made...
You'll Need:
-
1 tray
-
black chalk board paint (you can use regular black if you'd prefer)
-
acrylic paints in your choice of colours
-
fine paintbrush
-
bed stencil
Steps:
1. Take your tray, paint the center with black chalk boardpaint
2. Position your bed stencil in the middle and trace around. Next, in pencil write the words "Breakfast in bed" above the bed, and "eggs, toast, fruit" below. You can be creative here and write anything you like. Go wild - if you make a mistake, simply rub it out with a normal pencil eraser.
3. Once you're happy with your letters and the design, start painting!
4. Use a fine paint brush and take your time! I had to go over my letters twice, but you may need to go over the paint two or three times, as the chalkboard paint soaks it up! To avoid this, try not to add too much water to your brush, and use thick paint.
5. Leave this out in the sun to dry. Once completely dry, you can erase any pencil marks that show. You should end up with something gorgeous like this...
