Little Bird Table Centrepiece
Your guests won't believe that this simple project was made in just a few hours!
You'll Need:
-
Little bird template
-
Foam egg (available from craft stores)
-
Acrylic paint
-
scissors / craft knife
-
1/2 sheet of pretty paper per bird
-
twine or ribbon
-
plastic plate with middle cut out (optional)
Steps:
1. You can use store bought twigs, or like we did, don your ugg boots and stomp around in the great outdoors, collecting a large pile of sticks and twigs.
2. Remove the outer bark or debris. If using the plastic plate as your circle template, use this as your guide. Begin by laying sticks in a circlular pattern around the plate. Weave twigs inside each other so that they sit well. Once happy with their position, begin gluing the twigs together. Allow a day (or a few hours) in the sun to dry.
3. If you wish to paint your wreath, do so once dry. I have roughly painted mine white, so that it ended up looking like distressed drift wood. A sprinkle of white or silver glitter would add that extra bling!
4. Next, decide whether you'd like to paint, use pretty papers or gift wrap to make these little birds come to life. Cut bird templates from your chosen medium. Once the bird's body is complete, cut a small line through the middle, about 1/2 in or 2 cm long.Take a piece of reversible patterned paper and cut to about 4 in or 10cm in length and half that in width. Fold to create a fan. Slide fan through the paper cut to create wings.
5. Take your foam eggs and paint in one block colour. Add the speckles by dabbing or splattering a few drops of a contrasting coloured paint.
6. Finally, twist twine or bright ribbons around twigs and tie in a bow at the top. Glue in place. Position bird on your table and stand back to admire all your handiwork!
Note: Candles or real eggs in the centre would also look lovely!
