You Are My Sunshine Wall Art
This is a craft project that is sure to brihgten up any little girl's room!
It may or may not be raining at your place, but it sure is here! Around here, we love rainy days. The sound of the rain on the roof like a beating drum, puddles made for jumping and catching water in our new rain catcher...yes, we love rain.
We were inspired this week to make this pretty wall art - a perfect reminder on rainy days that sunshine is never far away!
To make this, follow a few easy steps below.
You'll Need:
-
a blank canvas or heavy cardboard A4 size
-
1 piece of cardboard, medium thickness, A4 size
-
ribbon
-
your choice of pretty paper in a sunny colour (like the yellow floral I've used here)
-
fabric in a rainy day theme, enough to cover your canvas or a sheet of A4 size paper
-
printed rain boot stencil from our shop
-
craft knife
-
glue
-
letter stickers in a pretty font
-
Ruler or tape measure
Steps:
1. Take your piece of cardboard and cover it simply by gluing your sunny paper on top
2. Next, turn your sunny cardboard over and glue your printed boot stencil to the underside, boot outline facing up so that you can still see it. Allow to dry
3. Whilst drying, measure out your rainy day fabric or paper. Turn right side down onto a table, place your canvas on top and roughly pencil around the outline, leaving a border of about two inches to spare. Cut
4. Glue fabric or paper in place and fold excess material over and glue to the underside
5. Now that your sunny paper should be dry, use a craft knife to cut around the outline of your rain boot and remove the boot shape
6. To create a ribbon border around your sunny paper, you will need to cut four strings of ribbon, about 20 cms each in length. If you want to be precise, you can use your ruler to measure the exact length needed and lightly pencil where to cut
7. Position on your paper and glue in place
8. Decide what you would like your wall art to say. I have used the words "You make me happy when skies are grey", but "You are my sunshine" or something else might make your heart sing, so don't be afraid to be creative. Lightly mark a pencil dot around the boot for each letter of the phrase you wish to write, then once you are sure your letters will fit, position a sticker in place.
9. Finally, you will need about 10 cms of ribbon. Position in place and make a loop. Glue.
10. Once dry, you are ready to hang!
Note: You can make a second matching wall art, by using the inner piece of your rain boot, which you will already have covered in sunny paper. Otherwise you can keep this to make a book mark, a birthday card or even a framed picture gift for someone special.
